The World’s Fastest Electric Car

What is the world’s fastest electric car? Many people assume it’s the Tesla Model S P90D.

Guess again!

Here at Service King Carlson, we're always looking out for the next big thing and these vehicles definitely fit the bill!

It’s an electric Corvette named the Genovation Xtreme Electric (GXE). In February, the high-performance prototype broke the record for the Top Speed Street Legal All Electric Car with an impressive speed of 186.8 mph. The previous record, set by a Finnish prototype, was 177 mph.

The GXE’s all-electric motor produces 700 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. It can hit 60 mph in just three seconds and has an approximate 120-mile range on a single charge. The price tag? A reported $330,000.

The GXE record was set at The Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds, at Space Florida’s Shuttle Landing Facility and certified by the International Mile Racing Association.

Based on a 2006 Z06 Corvette, the majority of GXE parts were designed and built in the United States. Genovation refers to itself as “The Green Car Company” and is located outside of Washington, DC, in Rockville, Maryland.

Here are five other fast electric vehicles worth noting:

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Tesla made it on the list. One of the only fast electric vehicles for purchase, the P90D can rocket you from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and boasts a top speed of 155 mph. The all-wheel drive vehicle has 532 horsepower and 713 lb-ft of torque.

Built by Renovo Motors in Silicon Valley, CA, The Renovo Coupe can hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. With 1,000 lb-ft of torque and over 500 horsepower, the all-electric vehicle has a top speed of over 120 mph. It charges in just 30 minutes and has been said to cost a half a million dollars.

The electric car manufacturer Rimac, based in Croatia, claims it has built a 1,088 horsepower vehicle with 1,180 lb-ft of torque that is able to go from 0-62 mph in about 2.6 seconds and reach a speed of 220 mph. This is all for a price of—are you sitting down—close to $1 million.

This limited-edition electric sports car has a top speed of 155 mph. With 286 horsepower, the rear-wheel drive vehicle is able to reach 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. The SP:01 features ‘360-POWERBACK’ technology that the company says will allow you to use the stored battery energy to power the car as well as an entire home.

More than 11 meters long, the Venturi was built by engineering students at Ohio State University in a joint project with Monaco-based Venturi Automobiles. The vehicle has an incredible 3,000 horsepower and an estimated top speed of 400 mph. It is the third land speed car built by the Center for Automotive Research at the university.

As you drive down the roadways here in West Chester, PA,  make sure to stay on the lookout in case one of these cutting-edge electric cars speeds by.
